Whether you are a medium channeling spirits or an average person making daily decisions, how can you tell the difference between positive and negative influence?
First of all, it is important to know and understand yourself. You have to be honest about your feelings and know your weaknesses and what kind of temptation you’re susceptible to.
Second, it is important to know how negative entities are likely to behave when they are being channeled by positive people with an audience seeking positive information, in contrast to how positive entities will behave when channeled.
Positive entities will respect the free will of each and every person who hears their messages. This includes respecting the free will of each audience member to decide for themselves whether the messages the entity gives are true. Therefore positive entities will avoid setting themselves up as or selling themselves as an authority or as beings of power or wisdom, because under current circumstances on Earth this would readily induce audiences to give up their own judgment in favor of just believing whatever the entity (or the channel) says. They will not violate your boundaries or tell you what to do. Instead positive beings speak in a way which allows the audience to decide for themselves whether they are trustworthy, based on the audience’s resonation with the information given. You will often hear positive entities reminding the audience to use their discernment when listening to any channeled information, emphasizing that they themselves are not in possession of all the answers. Positive entities will also avoid setting the channeler up in a position of power or authority. Therefore for example they generally do not give predictions with a specific date and time, even though they would be able to, because doing so might give the channeler a reputation as being able to predict the future.
Negative entities, in contrast, do not have your highest good in mind, and will generally cause all kinds of trouble when channeled by a positive person for a positive audience. They will seek to take advantage of human weaknesses and exploit human insecurities. They may begin by giving a great deal of accurate information, including correct predictions of minor near-future events, or demonstrating the ability to read the minds of audience members, in order to create confidence in the audience that they are a reliable source of information.
Then, once the audience believes and trusts them, they will mix in some information that is distorted in subtle or even overt ways, through “spin” or outright lies. They often seek to confuse the audience about the nature of good and evil, hiding the reality of evil, speaking as if good and evil were morally equivalent perspectives, and making evil intentions or actions seem universal and normal.
They may give bad advice, encouraging audience members to take actions harmful or destructive to themselves, while discouraging them from doing things that are empowering or constructive, or criticizing them for having taken such positive actions. They may give direct instructions, often with a sense of urgency. They count on you trusting their intentions and giving them your power by unquestioningly doing whatever they advise, rather than thinking critically for yourself and questioning whether it is really a good idea or not.
They may also seek to discredit the channel by giving information that turns out to be incorrect or predictions that fail to materialize. They may seek to depress and/or frighten the audience, for example by giving predictions of misfortune or doom. They may seek to undermine the audience’s self-confidence with subtle criticism and/or judgments, often using subtle sarcasm as well.
So as I said, you need self-knowledge, in order to know your own weaknesses and vulnerabilities, and you need to be aware of the reality of negative entities and how they are likely to differ from positive entities. Thirdly and finally, you need to have developed the skill of evaluating any particular message that you receive through channeling.
Here are some useful questions you can apply
Is the information helpful?
Is it empowering?
Is it loving and healing?
Does it support a unity perspective?
Does it make you feel positive?
Does it leave you feeling optimistic?
These are hallmarks of positive channelings.
On the other hand, does the message make you feel angry, sad, disempowered?
Does it make you feel compelled to act in a certain way?
Does it make you feel pressure?
Does it feel controlling, irresistible or overpowering?
Does it make you feel like you can not control your feelings or like you must give in to this powerful energy?
Does it give you the feeling like you must say or do something regardless of the consequences?
Do you feel bullied, undermined, criticized, or judged?
Does it make you feel guilty or humiliated?
These are hallmarks of negative channelings.
This life is all about experience and evolution. A person who chooses the negative path will eventually end up in the unity perspective, though it may take a longer and more painful journey to arrive there. In the end, it is simply a matter of what kind of experience you want to have, and making choices accordingly.

Subject matter for another discussion:
Negative or positive doesn’t mean right or wrong. It is not a judgement to call a path to unity negative or positive.
