Pay Attention

Pleasing

Serving

Raising

Unnerving

Suppressing

Over giving

Slaving

Isn’t living

If you feel worthless

Unless you’re serving someone

Then those someones

Will never be satisfied

Craving

Attention

Needing

Nursing

All your energy

Draining

Running

Given to everyone else

Instead of filling up yourself

When you’re depleted

It makes you mad

You try too hard

To be a “good” dad

All they want

Is your love

To feel supported

Is enough

Not the feeling of gifts

Or all of their wants

Sometimes you have to say no

Kids need help learning boundaries

Without guilt

Without shame

Without fear they will break

It’s ok if they protest

They reflect what you feed

What they need costs no money

They learn lack from the greed

And insecurities

Kids don’t need much

Just time

Just attention

Security comes from within

Children need to be raised

Not pleased

You know like I do

Satisfaction is a perspective

It’s not about the toys

Or the whims of a child

It’s the love of a father

With a heart that is mild
